Looking for a Valet for Tesla alternative?
Last checked: 9 October 2026
In short: Valet for Tesla is no longer available. ConTess is the closest replacement: a native Mac menu bar app for Tesla, bought once (€24.99), on Tesla's official Fleet API, with a full control dashboard, cost tracking and battery health. For a free battery readout only, there is TBar.
For years, Valet for Tesla was the answer to "how do I see my Tesla from my Mac's menu bar?" It was a small one-time purchase, around $10, and it did the job.
It is no longer something you can get. As of 9 October 2026, its website, teslamacapp.com, no longer resolves and the app is not listed in the Mac App Store. Around the same time, Tesla moved third-party apps from the old, unofficial Owner API to the official Fleet API, which requires a registered developer app and a virtual key on the car. Apps built on the old API stop working as that rollout reaches each car.
What ConTess keeps from Valet
- It lives in the menu bar. Battery, range, charging state and cabin temperature at a glance.
- You buy it once. €24.99 for one Mac, €39.99 for up to three. No subscription, ever.
- It is a real Mac app, not a web page in a tab. Native notifications included.
What it adds
- A full control dashboard: climate and defrost, seat and wheel heating, locks, frunk and trunk, windows, charge port, Sentry Mode, HomeLink, media, Dog and Camp modes. Openings are blocked while the car is moving.
- Real running costs: every trip and charge priced at your own electricity rate, with day and night tariffs, plus phantom drain while parked.
- Battery health: usable capacity and degradation tracked over time.
- Wall Connector telemetry: live power, voltage and current read straight off a Tesla Wall Connector on your home network.
- The official Fleet API, with commands signed on your Mac, so it is built on the API Tesla supports going forward.
What is different (be sure before you buy)
Valet signed you in with your Tesla account. ConTess runs on your own free Tesla developer app instead, which is what keeps it free of servers and subscriptions. That means a one-time setup of about ten minutes, including one verification file on a web address you control. The app's wizard walks you through it and the setup guide covers every step. ConTess needs macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon.
If all you want back is the battery percentage, the free TBar in the Mac App Store may be enough. If you want the whole car on your Mac, that is what ConTess is for.
