Tesla app for Mac: every option in 2026
Last checked: 9 October 2026
In short: Tesla makes no Mac app. Your options: ConTess (native app, full controls and costs, €24.99 once), TBar (free, battery readout only), Tessie, TeslaFi or Teslascope (cloud subscriptions used in a browser), or TeslaMate (free, needs your own server). Valet for Tesla is no longer available.
Tesla does not make a Mac app. The official app is for iPhone and Android, so if you want your car on the computer you spend all day at, you are choosing between a handful of third-party apps and web dashboards. This page lists all of them honestly, including where ours is not the right pick.
One thing changed the landscape: Tesla moved third-party apps from its old, unofficial Owner API to the official Fleet API, which needs a registered developer app and a virtual key paired with the car. Several older apps never made the move. Everything below works with the Fleet API unless it says otherwise.
| App | What it is | Price | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| ConTess | Native Mac app: menu bar status, full control dashboard, trip and charging costs at your own tariff, Wall Connector telemetry, battery health | €24.99 once (one Mac), €39.99 for three | macOS 14+, Apple silicon, your own free Tesla developer account, about ten minutes of setup |
| TBar | Menu bar battery percentage, charging status and range | Free | Mac App Store |
| Tessie | Cloud platform with phone, watch and web apps; on a Mac you use the web app | $69.99 a year, or $199.99 lifetime | A Tessie account; your data goes through Tessie's servers |
| TeslaFi / Teslascope | Cloud logging and analytics, used in a browser | TeslaFi $7.99 a month; Teslascope $39.99 a year | An account with them |
| TeslaMate | Free, open-source logger with Grafana dashboards; view on a Mac in a browser (or HedgieMate) | Free | An always-on server running Docker, PostgreSQL and Grafana |
| Valet for Tesla | The old menu bar app many people remember | Was about $10 once | No longer available: its website no longer resolves and it is not in the Mac App Store |
If you only want the battery percentage
TBar is free in the Mac App Store and shows charge level, charging status and range in the menu bar. If that is all you need, use it. You do not need to pay anyone.
If you want the whole car on your Mac, without a subscription
ConTess is the one we make. It lives in the menu bar and opens into a full dashboard: climate and defrost, seat and steering-wheel heating, locks, frunk and trunk, windows, charge port, Sentry Mode, HomeLink, Dog and Camp modes. It prices every trip and charge at your own electricity rate (with day and night tariffs), tracks phantom drain and battery degradation over time, and reads a Tesla Wall Connector directly over your home network. You pay once; updates are free.
It has no servers of its own. You create your own free Tesla developer app, so the only company between your Mac and your car is Tesla, and your history stays in a file on your Mac.
The honest catches: setup takes about ten minutes and needs a web address you control for one verification file; there is no phone app; and the background logger only records while the Mac is awake (it reports gaps rather than inventing data). If any of those is a deal-breaker, read on.
If you want phone apps and 24/7 logging
A cloud service such as Tessie logs around the clock because it runs on its own servers, and it has excellent phone and watch apps. On a Mac you get its web app. The cost is a subscription and your car's data passing through a third party. See ConTess vs Tessie for the detail.
If you like running your own server
TeslaMate is free and superb if you already run a home server. It is a logger rather than a remote control, and it needs Docker, a database and Grafana kept running all the time. See ConTess vs TeslaMate.
If you used Valet for Tesla
Valet was the menu bar app for years. It is no longer available to buy. See our Valet for Tesla alternative page for what moving over looks like.
Questions
Is there an official Tesla app for Mac?
No. Tesla publishes apps for iPhone and Android only. On a Mac you need a third-party app or a web dashboard.
What is the best Tesla app for Mac?
It depends on what you want. For a quick battery readout, TBar is free. For a full native dashboard with controls, trip and charging costs and battery health, bought once, there is ConTess. If you want phone apps and 24/7 cloud logging and do not mind a subscription, Tessie runs in a Mac browser.
Does Valet for Tesla still work?
As of 9 October 2026, the Valet for Tesla website (teslamacapp.com) no longer resolves and the app is not listed in the Mac App Store, so it is no longer something you can buy.
Prices and availability of other apps were checked on 9 October 2026 and can change; check each vendor's own site before you buy. Spotted something out of date? Email support@contess.app and we will fix it.
